Veteran musician Master H has peeled back the curtain on his remarkable three-decade career while teasing details of his groundbreaking collaboration with superstar Jeys Marabini on the highly anticipated album Mjolo.
A Career-Defining Collaboration
In an exclusive interview with Zim GBC News, the multi-instrumentalist revealed this marks the first project where he’s performed every track for Marabini:
“I’ve worked with Brother Jeys since 2018, but this album is special – I played every instrument in the studio. It’s an honor creating work that will outlive us, reaching audiences globally.”
From Church Pews to Center Stage
Master H’s musical journey began in 1996 at Brethren in Christ Church, evolving through:
- 2004: School marimba band debut
- 2013: Formation of Afro Cosecadora Jazz Band
- 2016: Career-altering mentorship under producer Godwin Smalls
“That connection opened doors to work with Gazelimnyama, Sandra Ndebele, Hudson Simbarashe and other giants,” he reflected.
Defying the Doubters
The musician addressed skeptics who questioned pursuing music professionally:
“They said ‘How will you eat?’ But 29 years later, here we are. Passion fuels sustainability in this industry.”
When pressed to name his magnum opus, Master H demurred:
“That’s like choosing a favorite child. Every project gets my absolute best – that’s non-negotiable.”
Wisdom for the Next Generation
To emerging artists, the veteran offered hard-won advice:
“Value your craft like your life depends on it – because it does. Your art carries your destiny.”
Fireworks Coming on ‘Mjolo’
Teasing the new album, Master H promised:
“Expect inspiration, education and entertainment in one explosive package. We’re bringing fireworks!”
With Mjolo poised to drop, this collaboration cements Master H’s legacy as both a consummate musician and bridge between Zimbabwe’s musical generations.
