A wealthy family in Richards Bay, South Africa, is left reeling after their Mozambican domestic worker allegedly disappeared with valuables worth an estimated R100,000.
The incident occurred while the homeowner was away at work, and CCTV footage from the property shows the woman leaving the residence carrying two suitcases filled with the stolen items.
“We are shocked and devastated by the betrayal of trust,” said the homeowner, who wished to remain anonymous. “We treated her like family, and this is how she repays us.”
The stolen items include multiple cellphones, a laptop, designer handbags, and expensive sneakers.
The police have launched a manhunt for the suspect, and authorities are working closely with immigration officials amid suspicions she may attempt to cross the border.
“We are doing everything in our power to track her down and recover the stolen items,” said a police spokesperson. “We urge anyone with information to come forward and assist us in our investigation.”
The incident has raised concerns about the vulnerability of employers to theft by domestic workers.
“Employers need to be vigilant and take steps to protect themselves and their property,” said a security expert. “This includes conducting thorough background checks on potential employees and monitoring their activities.”
The suspect’s whereabouts remain unknown, and the investigation is ongoing.
