Oskido returns to school

RENOWNED South African artist Oskido on Monday shared with his fans on twitter that he was returning to school for a short term course.

Oscar Sibonginkosi “Oskido” Mdlongwa is a legendary music producer born in Brits South Africa, but spent most of his childhood in Bulawayo’s Luveve suburb Zimbabwe, where his father, the late Esaph Mdlongwa used to reside.

Oskido is a recording artist, producer, who owns recording label, Kalawa Jazmee Records, and has also ventured into the restaurant business.

Oskido has been in the music industry for over 26 years.

In his early life, Oskido attended high school at Gifford High School in the City of Kings up until he moved to Brits in 1988 at the age of 21.

This led to him falling in love with the Kwaito music genre which was the “hit of the moment” music, and in 1991, he moved to Johannesburg to pursue his music career.

Oskido is widely famous for working with artists such as Mafikizolo, Davido, Proffessor, May D, Uhuru, Busiswa, Candy Tsa Mandebele, who are amongst Africa’s finest.

On Monday he broke his silence on Twitter after announcing that he was returning to school for a short term Project Management course at the University of Pretoria.

He the course runs for five months and will be to equip his mind academically.

“Today I embark on a new challenge by going back to school. I have enrolled at the University of Pretoria for a 5-month Project Management Programme. That’s 8 am to 5 pm, 1 week per month. Believers let’s keep growing and empowering ourselves,” he tweeted a caption to a picture of himself in class.

University of Pretoria is one of the prestigious universities in South Africa as well as one of the most expensive in that country.

A research done, Oskido is set to pay over R46 000 for the course.

Motivation for going back to school came from challenging himself to do better for himself.

In an interview with Drum Magazine (South Africa), he said that he had a challenge with his daughter of not eating meat for 21 days, and after successfully completing the challenge, he felt energised to push himself further.

Congratulatory massages came pouring from other fellow celebrities such as Dj Black, who praised him for his new journey he has embarked on.

In his other business, he currently owns one of the famous restaurants Daruma, in Sandton, and continues to work with artists signed under his record label.
