Ebenezer Academy Principal Charged With Rape as Simbisa Boss Gets Protection Order

Crimes and Courts

Harare – In separate court cases that highlight issues of abuse of power, Ebenezer Academy principal Kudakwashe Mawone appeared in court for allegedly raping a 16-year-old student, while a Simbisa Brands manager secured a protection order against a harassing subordinate.

School Principal Remanded in Custody Over Rape Allegations

Mawone appeared before Harare magistrate Letwin Rwodzi on Wednesday facing charges of raping a student during a school sports trip on June 13.

Prosecutor Bleased Songozo told the court that Mawone allegedly left the victim in his car during sports activities at Mufakose High School, then later assaulted her in the vehicle upon their return to Ebenezer Academy.

“The complainant screamed for help, alerting a security guard who interrupted the incident,” said Songozo.

The case came to light when the victim accidentally included her brother in a phone call with Mawone, leading to her reporting the matter to her pastor.

Magistrate Rwodzi remanded Mawone in custody pending trial continuation.

Simbisa Manager Granted Protection Order

In a separate case, Harare Civil Court magistrate Johanna Mukwesha granted Simbisa Brands manager Melody Mawarura a protection order against subordinate Russell Mashambadova, whom she accused of persistent harassment and death threats.

“I live in fear due to his violent threats and public humiliation, including calling me a witch,” Mawarura testified.

She cited an incident where Mashambadova blocked her car while shouting obscenities.

Mashambadova denied the claims, alleging workplace victimization. Magistrate Mukwesha nevertheless issued the order, warning him against further harassment.
