Prominance Sinomusa Khumalo
Bulawayo – The 4th Edition of the All Councillors’ Indaba 2025 at the Zimbabwe International Trade Fair (ZITF) took a celebratory turn today when Deputy Minister of Local Government, Hon. Mavhunga, revealed during his vote of thanks that it was his 40th birthday – and received a special surprise from President Emmerson Mnangagwa.
A Heartwarming Father-Son Moment
In a lighthearted and emotional address, Deputy Minister Mavhunga shared a personal story with the over 2,000 councillors in attendance.
“My father is a councillor, and many people didn’t know,” he said.
“When we are here, I am his boss, but when we go home, he becomes the boss. The reason I’m sharing this is that 40 years ago today, I was born.”
He jokingly added,
“I am going to tell my grandchildren that in 2025, on this day, His Excellency President Mnangagwa attended my birthday party and ordered over 2,000 councillors to buy me a cake!”
President Mnangagwa’s Generous Gesture
True to his reputation of rewarding his team, President Mnangagwa called the deputy minister forward and handed him a wad of several US$100 bills as a birthday gift. The gesture was met with cheers, and the delegates broke into a spontaneous birthday song to celebrate the occasion.
A Tradition of Recognition
It has become customary for President Mnangagwa to present his aides and supporters with US$100 bills during public events, and today, it was Deputy Minister Mavhunga’s turn to be honored.
