Crimes and Courts
Masvingo – The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has arrested 29-year-old Tafadzwa Janyure Zimirenyika, a suspected serial criminal believed to be behind a wave of violent offenses terrorizing Masvingo Province since 2023.
Zimirenyika was apprehended on June 19, 2025, in Ngundu after an extensive police investigation. Authorities have so far linked him to 203 cases of armed robbery, kidnapping, rape, car theft, and malicious property damage across Mwenezi, Renco, Muchakata, Ngundu, Zaka, and surrounding areas.
Murder Charge Added to Long List of Alleged Crimes
The suspect also faces a murder charge following the brutal killing of Jacob Museva at Lundi Business Centre in Mwenezi on June 6, 2025.
“The victim attempted to intervene during a robbery when the suspect struck him with a mattock, leading to his death,” police said in a statement.
Zimirenyika has since appeared in court for initial remand and remains in custody until his next hearing on July 4, 2025.
Police Vow to Intensify Investigations
The ZRP confirmed that further investigations are ongoing and assured the public of updates as the case progresses.
“We urge anyone with additional information to come forward to assist in ensuring justice is served,” police said.
Relief for Terrorized Communities
Residents in affected areas expressed relief following the arrest, with many describing months of fear due to the crime spree.
“We’ve been living in constant fear—this man was a nightmare,” said a Ngundu shopkeeper who asked not to be named.
“We hope the courts deal with him harshly.”*
