Highlanders FC interim coach Try Ncube says his side is fully focused and determined to bounce back with a strong performance against MWOS FC on Sunday 29 at Bouberfields , a team that handed them a defeat in their opening match of the season.

Speaking at the pre-match press conference, Ncube admitted the fixture will not be an easy one but believes the team is ready to rise to the occasion.

“Everything is going according to plan,” said Ncube.

“It’s a game that is a tricky game because MWOS Football Club are a good side. They lost last week. They beat us in our first match of the season.”

Despite the challenge, the interim coach remained optimistic.

“We are prepared to face them and I hope the players apply themselves well. We’re going to get the result.”

Ncube emphasized the focus in training, particularly in midfield coordination and attacking combinations.

“We’ve been working on combinations in midfield and going forward so that we can manage to be scoring goals as a team that will be playing at home,” he said.

With pressure mounting to deliver at home, Ncube made their intention clear, “Our primary objective is to win. We know our fans, they want to win.”

The coach did not hide the emotional impact of recent coaching changes on the squad. “Obviously it had an impact, especially on the first day,” he said in reference to the previous coach’s departure.

“But we tried to psych up the players and then yesterday we saw a different mood, and hopefully today we’re going to see even more improvement.”

He also sent a rallying call to the club’s supporters.

“We are going to fight for the badge. We are going to be tough with and without the ball.”

Confidence will be key, he added. “We just have to be confident with and without the ball so that we manage to get the result that everyone wants.”

As Bulawayo giants prepare to host MWOS, Ncube left no doubt about their target.

“We really want to win. There is no other way. We want to win.”

“We have to catch results.” Ncube said

MWOS FC continue to impress in the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League, currently sitting second on the log with 34 points from 17 matches — just one point shy of league leaders Simba Bhora. Boasting 9 wins, 7 draws, and just a single loss, the newcomers have quickly established themselves as genuine title contenders in their debut top-flight campaign.

Bulawayo giants Highlanders, who played out a goalless draw in the Bulawayo Derby last weekend, currently occupy 9th place on the log with 23 points, having registered 5 wins and 8 draws. Bosso’s inconsistency has been a recurring concern throughout the season, leading to recent technical changes at the club in a bid to turn their fortunes around.

MWOS’ recent 3-1 defeat at Baobab Stadium to Ngezi Platinum raised serious questions about their ability to recover from setbacks. The loss not only cost them three points but also opened the door for Joel Luphahla’s Simba Bhora, who seized the opportunity by edging Yadah 1-0 away to reclaim top spot.
