KANYEMBA, Zimbabwe — In what villagers are calling a miracle, ten people cheated death Wednesday evening when a light aircraft made an emergency crash-landing at Kanyemba Airstrip in Mbire District.
The plane, en route from Harare to Kafuko Safaris in Mozambique, came down under unclear circumstances around dusk.
Witnesses described a tense scene as the aircraft suddenly descended onto the remote airstrip.
“It Was a Miracle”
“All ten people on board escaped without any injuries. We were all shocked but relieved,” said Tengo Mugonapanja, head of Mugonapanja village, who witnessed the incident.
The pilot emerged “visibly shaken” but offered no immediate explanation for the emergency landing, according to Mugonapanja.
The aircraft sustained visible damage, though the full extent remains unassessed.
Investigation Pending
Authorities have yet to determine what caused the crash:
- The Civil Aviation Authority of Zimbabwe (CAAZ) has not issued a statement
- Possible factors include mechanical failure, weather conditions, or human error
- The aircraft type and passenger details remain undisclosed
A local official, speaking anonymously, told reporters:
“We’ll only know what happened once aviation experts assess the scene.”
Remote Airstrip Incident
The Kanyemba facility primarily serves private and safari flights in Zimbabwe’s rugged northern border region. Emergency response details remain unconfirmed, though the lack of casualties has brought relief to the small community.
As night fell Wednesday, questions lingered about the unscheduled landing at the remote strip.
Aviation experts are expected to begin their investigation Thursday morning.
