Transport Ministry Warns Public About CVR Impersonation Scams

Harare Correspondent
HARARE — The Ministry of Transport and Infrastructural Development has issued an urgent warning about a surge in online fraudsters impersonating Central Vehicle Registry (CVR) officials to scam unsuspecting citizens.

Fraudsters Target Vehicle Owners

According to the ministry, criminals are:

  • Soliciting illegal online payments for vehicle registration
  • Offering fake number plate and driver’s licence processing
  • Instructing victims to deposit money into personal accounts
  • Promising direct CVR document collection after payment

“The CVR does not solicit direct online payments to individual accounts,” emphasized a ministry spokesperson.

“These are fraudulent schemes preying on the public.”

Official Channels Clarified

The CVR clarified its legitimate operations:

  • Its online booking platform only manages backlog driver’s licence appointments
  • The platform does not require any payments
  • All vehicle registration payments must be made in-person at CVR offices

“Any payment requests through our booking platform are scams,” stated a CVR representative.

Public Urged to Stay Vigilant

The ministry provided these safety guidelines:
✔️ Verify transactions through official emails:

  • Dclvrt1@gmail.com
  • hrtcv2@gmail.com
  • registrarcvr@gmail.com

✔️ Report suspicious activity to:

  • Local CVR offices
  • Zimbabwe Republic Police

“Never transfer money to personal accounts or unverified agents,” warned the ministry.

“Visit our offices for all legitimate transactions.”

Authorities are investigating the scams as reports of victims losing money continue to surface.
