Zimbabwe has lost one of its highly esteemed physician Dr Tapiwanashe Bwakura who succumbed to cancer whilst on treatment in South Africa.
Dr. Bwakura was a renowned physician and teacher in the field of medicine for several years.
He served for years as Acting Chief Executive Officer (CEO) at Sally Mugabe Central Hospital one of the referral hospitals of the country which is located in the country’s capital Harare and he was also the secretary General of the Zimbabwe Medical Association (ZIMA).
Dr. Bwakura was affiliated to the College of Surgeons of East, Central and Southern Africa (COSECSA) and he had a position in the
National Physicians Association of Zimbabwe (NAPAZ).
Heading the adult HIV comprehensive care clinic at Harare central hospital was also part of his job descriptions.
The late Physician served SafAIDS for several years as a board of trustee. SafAIDS was greatly moved by his passing on.
“His deep empathy, sincere care and attention for the well-being of patients and their families, his students and mentees, extended to all with whom he interfaced professionally and socially,” SafAIDS said.
“His kindness and generosity, keen, intellect, hearty laughter, and love for humour, sober engagement with his profession, dedication to family and warmth to friends and colleagues alike, are among the many rich attributes that weave the tapestry of his legacy. We will forever cherish his example of service and sacrifice.”
