Harare – Zimbabwe is set to dispatch a high-powered delegation, led by Foreign Minister Amon Murwira, to the upcoming St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF), the Russian embassy in Harare confirmed on Monday. The delegation will include nearly the entire cabinet, signaling Harare’s commitment to deepening ties with Moscow.
A Strategic Partnership in Key Sectors
The embassy highlighted Zimbabwe’s focus on expanding cooperation with Russia across critical sectors, including mining, agriculture, energy, education, and defense.
“Harare aims to build a strong alliance with Russia, one that fosters mutual growth and addresses shared economic priorities,” a spokesperson from the Russian embassy stated.
Foreign Minister Murwira emphasized the importance of the forum in advancing Zimbabwe’s economic agenda.
“SPIEF presents a vital platform for Zimbabwe to engage with global partners, attract investment, and explore innovative solutions to our developmental challenges,” he said.

Scheduled for June 18–21 in St. Petersburg, this year’s forum carries the theme: “Shared Values: the Foundation of Growth in a Multipolar World.” With confirmed participation from over 137 countries and territories, SPIEF continues to solidify its position as one of the world’s most significant business and economic forums.
“SPIEF serves as a crucial venue for addressing evolving global challenges and shaping strategies to adapt the international economy to new realities,” the embassy noted.
Strengthening Zimbabwe-Russia Relations
The high-level attendance underscores Zimbabwe’s strategic pivot toward strengthening relations with Russia, particularly in light of increasing geopolitical shifts. Analysts suggest that the delegation’s broad composition reflects Harare’s intent to secure comprehensive partnerships beyond traditional diplomacy.
As Zimbabwe prepares for the forum, expectations are high for new agreements that could bolster the country’s industrial and technological capabilities while reinforcing Russia’s influence in Southern Africa.
