Bulawayo — The Bulawayo Arts Festival entered its third day with an engaging schools workshop on poetry and literature, hosted by the Center of Talent for Development.

Held at the Bulawayo Small City Hall, the event brought together students from various schools, including Northlea High School, Light House Secondary School, Hillside Teacher’s College Academy, Evelin Girls High School, and others.

The workshop aimed to nurture young literary talents, offering students a platform to explore creativity through writing.

Facilitated by experienced educators and literary enthusiasts, the sessions were interactive, encouraging students to delve into poetry and storytelling.

“We believe fostering a love for literature from a young age profoundly impacts a student’s personal and academic growth,” said the director of the Center of Talent for Development.

“This workshop isn’t just about teaching poetry—it’s about igniting a passion for storytelling and self-expression.”

A highlight of the event was a visual display of poems selected from the ZIMSEC O-Level curriculum, designed to make learning enjoyable and memorable.

The initiative was well-received by students and educators alike, praised for its innovative approach and fostering inter-school collaboration.

“It’s amazing to see students so excited about poetry and literature,” said Philani A. Nyoni of the Center for Talent Development.

“Events like these are crucial in nurturing the next generation of writers and thinkers.”

Students shared glowing testimonials about the skills they gained.

“As a poet myself, I enjoyed the show and even performed. I’ve done a lot of poetry before, but I’m always happy to learn something new,” said Muzikayise Moyo.

Keisha Phiri, a student at Hillside Teachers College Academy, highlighted poetry’s role in youth education.

“Poems are a powerful way to educate and correct certain behaviors,” she noted.

Now in its third day, the Bulawayo Arts Festival celebrates creativity and cultural expression through workshops, performances, and exhibitions. The Center of Talent for Development’s workshop underscores the power of art and literature to unite communities.

With more events scheduled, the festival promises to further engage and inspire residents and visitors alike.
