The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has launched a nationwide manhunt for a motorist responsible for a fatal hit-and-run accident that claimed the life of a 16-year-old boy last Sunday.
The tragic incident occurred at approximately 7:00 PM on May 24, 2025, at the 119-kilometre peg along the busy Harare-Mutare Road.
The juvenile victim succumbed to severe head injuries sustained during the collision and was pronounced dead at the scene.
National police spokesperson, Commissioner Paul Nyathi, confirmed the details and issued a public appeal for assistance in a statement released today.
“Police in Marondera are appealing for information which may assist in the investigation of a fatal hit-and-run road traffic accident which occurred at the 119-kilometre peg along Harare-Mutare Road on May 24, 2025, at around 7 PM,” Commissioner Nyathi stated.
He provided critical details of the incident:
“An unknown motorist hit a male juvenile, aged 16, and did not stop after the accident. The victim sustained head injuries and died on the spot.”
Commissioner Nyathi urged anyone with potentially relevant information to come forward immediately:
“Anyone with information [is requested] to report at any nearest police station.”
The ZRP is actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the accident and is seeking witnesses or any details that could help identify the fleeing vehicle and driver.
The callous nature of the driver’s failure to stop and render assistance has added gravity to the search.
