Kwekwe, Zimbabwe – A devastating road traffic accident near the Sebakwe River along the Harare-Bulawayo Road resulted in the loss of twelve lives early Tuesday morning, as confirmed by the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP).
The crash occurred at the 200-kilometre peg near Kwekwe when a fuel tanker with two trailers collided with a two-tonne truck and a Nissan AD Van carrying twelve passengers.
Police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi provided details about the incident, stating,
“The tanker, which was travelling from Harare towards Kwekwe, first sideswiped the two-tonne truck before colliding head-on with the AD Van coming from the opposite direction.”
Nyathi further explained the severity of the collision:
“The tanker dragged the AD Van for several metres before overturning and landing on top of it, trapping all occupants.”
Tragically, all twelve individuals in the AD Van died at the scene. Their bodies have been taken to Kwekwe General Hospital for post-mortem examinations.
Authorities have launched an investigation into the cause of the crash, aiming to uncover the circumstances that led to this horrific accident. The ZRP has reiterated the importance of road safety and adherence to traffic regulations to prevent such tragedies in the future.
