The launch of Jah Prayzah’s highly anticipated 14-track album “Ndini Mukudzei” has been marred by serious plagiarism allegations from Chimurenga musician Kurai Makore, nephew of legendary artist Thomas Mapfumo.

Beat Similarities Spark Controversy

Makore claims the instrumental arrangement of Jah Prayzah’s new single “Moto” bears striking resemblance to his 2022 composition “Kanyarugwe”, which was uploaded to YouTube in 2023.

“When I heard ‘Moto’ last week, I immediately recognized my work,” Makore stated.

“This isn’t about jealousy – it’s about protecting artistic integrity. I inherited my unique style from my uncle (Mapfumo), and when someone copies it, I can tell.”

A source close to Makore’s camp revealed:

“We discreetly raised the issue with Jah Prayzah’s team to avoid public drama. Their response will determine our next steps.”

Defense Claims Folk Song Origins

Jah Prayzah’s manager Keen Mushapaidze countered the allegations:

“I haven’t heard Makore’s song, but this beat is an old folk melody. These traditional rhythms gain attention when popular artists use them.”

Music copyright expert Henry Makombe of ZIMURA advised:

“Artists with plagiarism claims should file formal complaints. We mediate disputes and can impose penalties if infringement is proven.”

History of Similar Allegations

This isn’t Jah Prayzah’s first plagiarism controversy. In 2014, he admitted borrowing a Ghanaian beat for “Mwanasikana”, claiming he thought it was original movie soundtrack.

Despite the current allegations, Jah Prayzah’s album launch reportedly drew record crowds last week.

The artist maintains “Ndini Mukudzei” represents his finest work yet, telling fans:

“The public response confirms this might be my best album. These songs truly connect with people.”

As the music industry awaits resolution, the dispute highlights growing concerns about artistic originality in Zimbabwe’s competitive music scene.
