Police Officer Injured in Hit-and-Run Incident in Masvingo

A police officer controlling traffic in Masvingo was struck by a vehicle on Monday, December 30 last year, near the Chevron Hotel along Robert Mugabe Way.

The incident involved a white Nissan AD Van, registration number AFV 1597, whose driver failed to stop after hitting the officer.

According to a statement from the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP), the officer sustained a swollen heel as a result of the collision. The ZRP reported,

“We are currently investigating a hit-and-run road traffic accident involving a police officer who was performing his duties.”

The police are appealing for assistance from the public, urging anyone with information about the incident to come forward.

“We encourage anyone who witnessed the accident or has information about the vehicle to report to the nearest police station,” the statement added.

In a separate incident on the same day, an unidentified man was killed in another hit-and-run accident at the 38-kilometre mark along the Harare-Wedza Road. The police are also investigating this case and are seeking information from the public.

The ZRP continues to emphasize the importance of road safety and the need for motorists to adhere to traffic regulations, especially during the festive season when road traffic incidents tend to increase.
