Police in Bulawayo are actively searching for a couple accused of defrauding victims of over US$130,000 through fraudulent overseas employment schemes. The suspects, identified as Gwendoline Ndlovu (28) and Melusi Ndlovu (36), allegedly posed as agents for an undisclosed company, claiming to facilitate job placements in countries such as Canada, the United Kingdom, and Ireland.
According to police spokesperson Inspector Abednico Ncube, the couple is linked to 18 fraud cases that occurred between January and July 2023, resulting in a total loss of US$134,552 from unsuspecting victims. The investigation began after a report from one victim, Alison Unami, led to Gwendoline’s arrest on May 3, 2023. Melusi was apprehended the following day at the Bulawayo Central Police Station while visiting his wife.
After their initial court appearance, the couple was granted bail with conditions requiring them to report to the police three times a week. However, they provided a false address to the court, claiming to live at 568 Ntepe, Gwanda, instead of their actual residence at 300 Ntshonalanga Road, Sunninghill, Bulawayo. This deception allowed them to abscond, violating their bail conditions, and a warrant for their arrest has since been issued.
Inspector Ncube has appealed to the public for any information regarding the couple’s whereabouts, emphasizing the importance of community assistance in apprehending the fugitives.
The police are determined to bring Gwendoline and Melusi Ndlovu to justice for their alleged fraudulent activities.
