Kariba is currently facing a cholera crisis, with seven confirmed cases reported in the Gache Gache area.
Of these, five individuals have tested positive for the infection, prompting urgent action from local health authorities.
Desmond Anele Gumbochuma, the District Development Coordinator and head of the District Civil Protection Unit, has indicated that medical teams are actively mobilizing to manage the outbreak. They are providing treatment and support to those affected and are emphasizing the need for strict hygiene practices among residents. Gumbochuma has urged anyone feeling unwell to seek immediate medical attention to help contain the spread of the disease.
In light of the outbreak, the District Civil Protection Unit has appealed for assistance from various sectors, including corporations, non-governmental organizations, individuals, and religious bodies. They are requesting essential supplies and resources to bolster the emergency response, which includes:
- Food
- Tents
- Hygiene products
- Fuel for health teams
- Borehole equipment
