Tafadzwa Mandaza, known as DJ Ribhe, a producer and promoter from Chillspot Records, has been charged with the rape of a 14-year-old girl.

The 32-year-old appeared before Harare magistrate Marewanazvo Gofa, who remanded him in custody and advised him to seek bail at the High Court.

His next court appearance is scheduled for November 14.

The State alleges that the victim, who resides in the same neighborhood as Ribhe in Glen Norah, was reported missing after she failed to return home from school. On October 16, 2024, it was noted that she had not attended school for two consecutive days.

On the evening of October 17, the complainant, accompanied by others, went to Ribhe’s residence, where he allegedly manipulated her into consuming a drink laced with an unknown substance and smoking shisha. The following day, they reportedly went to Ribhe’s home, where the victim regained consciousness.

Upon waking, she realized that Ribhe had sexually assaulted her without her consent.

The victim was later found in Highfields on October 18, and after being interviewed by her father, she disclosed the details of the incident, leading to the police report.

DJ Ribhe is being represented by lawyer Dumisani Mthombeni as the case unfolds. The serious nature of the charges has drawn significant attention, highlighting ongoing concerns regarding the safety of minors in the community.

This is not the first time a DJ from the music stabled was dragged to court for similar charges. Two years ago
Zimdancehall producer Rodger Kadzimwe aka DJ Levels faced allegations of raping his then lover singer Shashl, born Ashleigh Angel Moyo.

Shashl was to withdraw the charges but over a set of demands she wanted adhered to before seeking withdrawal of rape and physical assault charges against him.
