A tragic accident occurred on the Harare-Mutare highway involving a school bus from Chipinge Junior Primary School.
The bus, operated by Gold Class, was transporting 53 students and 7 staff members when it overturned around 1:45 p.m. on Thursday. The incident resulted in the death of one teacher and injuries to 31 others, including 25 students and 6 adults, who were taken to Rusape General Hospital for treatment.
Details of the Incident
According to police reports, the bus driver attempted to overtake a haulage truck at high speed, which led to the driver losing control of the vehicle. This caused the bus to veer off the road and ultimately overturn, landing on its side.

In a separate incident just a day prior, a beer delivery lorry lost control at Sakubva Bus Terminus in Mutare, resulting in two fatalities and four injuries. The lorry’s brakes reportedly failed, causing it to strike several vendors and collide with three vehicles before overturning.
Safety Concerns
In light of these incidents, Zimbabwe Republic Police spokesperson, Commissioner Paul Nyathi emphasized the importance of regular vehicle maintenance and urged drivers to avoid speeding and exercise caution while overtaking.
