The family of Chief Marupi, whose real name was Oaheng Nare, is seeking justice following his mysterious and untimely death at the age of 28. He passed away at a Harare health facility after experiencing severe stomach pain and vomiting. The family’s concerns about foul play were expressed during his burial in Dibilashaba, Gwanda South, where he was laid to rest near his ancestors.
Chief Marupi’s death has sparked widespread attention, with prominent figures, including the President of the Chiefs’ Council, Chief Mtshane Khumalo, and local government representatives, attending his funeral. A visibly distressed family member warned that those responsible for Marupi’s death would face consequences.
Other chiefs, such as Chief Hwadalala of Gwanda and Chief Sitauze, have echoed the family’s suspicions, calling for a thorough investigation. Chief Sitauze described Marupi’s death as “deeply shocking and hard to believe,” highlighting their friendship and Marupi’s jovial nature.

“The mountain has fallen; we are left without a place to hide.”
