In a disturbing incident, Tawanda Maronze, a 23-year-old man from Bulawayo, has been sentenced to four years in prison for kidnapping a three-year-old girl.
His actions were reportedly motivated by a belief that he was following instructions from a traditional healer to perform a ritual assault on the child.
Details of the Incident
Maronze kidnapped the girl on October 26, 2024, taking her approximately 5 kilometers away to a secluded area. Fortunately, the child’s aunt noticed the suspicious activity along Solusi Road and confronted Maronze with the help of friends. This intervention led to the swift involvement of the police, who arrested him shortly thereafter.
Legal Outcome
Following his confession in court, Maronze was convicted on kidnapping charges. The court’s decision to impose a four-year prison sentence reflects the serious nature of his crime and the potential harm he intended to inflict on the child.
