Crimes and Courts Correspondent

A 20-year-old man from Glenview, Dean Njikizana, has reportedly been kidnapped, with the abductors demanding a ransom of US$2,000 for his safe return.

The incident occurred after Dean collected $614 from his father, raising concerns when he failed to return home that evening. The following day, his mother received a distressing image of Dean bound and gagged, accompanied by a message indicating that he would be held until the ransom was paid.

Skepticism Surrounding the Kidnapping

Despite the alarming nature of the situation, many social media users are expressing skepticism about the legitimacy of the kidnapping. Some believe that Dean may have staged the abduction to extort money from his family. Comments on social media reflect this doubt, with users suggesting that the incident is a ploy for financial gain rather than a genuine kidnapping. For instance, one user remarked,

“Akuna kidnap yakadai. Vakomana vakutsvaka mari,” implying that the situation is fabricated for money.

Proton Bakers Donation Sparks Controversy

In a separate incident, Proton Bakers faced backlash after donating 11 empty drums to the Zimbabwe Republic Police Bulawayo traffic section for use at roadblocks. While the police expressed gratitude for the donation, many Zimbabweans criticized the move, calling it embarrassing and outdated. Critics argued that the country should adopt more modern traffic control measures, such as cones, instead of using old drums. One user expressed frustration, stating,

“Don’t do this again @ProtonBakers & @PoliceZimbabwe, this is embarrassing.”

Conclusion

Both incidents highlight the growing concerns among Zimbabweans regarding issues of trust and accountability. The skepticism surrounding Dean Njikizana’s kidnapping reflects broader societal issues, while the criticism of Proton Bakers underscores a desire for more effective and modern solutions in public safety.
