Many countries have laws that prohibit certain kind of apparel to be won in public.

Some of the laws were crafted to enshrine dignity unto the human element, some were crafted to guard against the criminal mind and some were crafted to contain uncouth behaviour by the wearer and the eye that sees.

It is unfortunate, that when it comes to dressing women specie has tended to hide behind the finger so as to roam the streets in semi naked state.

One observer a long time ago, thus noted,

“the more women dress less, in the end they will be dressless

The above statement was uttered long back when our women were crawling toward dressing less.

Nowadays dressing less or dressing to expose has taken over the public domain as many women walk about ‘dressed less’.

The Zimbabwean situation has been exercebated by fact that there are numerous women rights activists who would stand their ground in fighting for their kith to dress less.

Yet, the country has law against such behaviour, the law of indecent exposure.

Many people are not aware that Section 77 of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act (Chapter 9:23) criminalises indecency.

Public indecency is committed when a person, male or female, indecently exposes him or herself in the presence of another person in or near a public place. A person can indecently expose himself or herself while he or she is in a private place but in view of another person.

The law again states that public indecency can be committed through spoken word, singing, writing or drawing images of obscene nature in a public place.

Public indecency needs any courageous person to make a report to a police officer and justice will take its course.

The nowaday apparel by some of our children, wives and mothers leaves a lot to be desired.

Yes, they dress less, and have become dressless.

There is a fashion that came through what is known as bikers. This tight fitting knee length shot when won otherwise, exposes the womanwood of the person who is putting them on. There is also the tight fitting jeggins or leggins with the same effect.

Many a times, such clothing has left a down to earth woman wondering what has gotten into their kith.

South African socialite popularly known as Zodwa waBantu, is said to have been slapped with a warrant of arrest for violating the Laws of Botswana and Humanity Ethics.

She was set to perform in at a Take it Easy Music Festival in Maun Village.

The promoters of the even are quoted as having said,

“We regret to inform that our Main Act for Today’s show – Zodwa Wabantu – won’t be able to attend the event due to reasons/circumstances beyond our control which some of them include restrainments from the Laws of Botswana. Recently Zodwa Wabantu was slapped with a Warrant of Arrest for Violating the Laws of Botswana and Humanity Ethics on her last gigs/performance in Botswana.

Even if she was to bypass the Restraining Orders from the Botswana Police, the Bogosi Leadership of Maun Village were against her performing here in Maun today….. “

Zodwa denies the charges.

Human rights activists have ensured that the girl child is devoid of simple ethics, morals and values. While advocacy for self righteousness has its benefits, it has thrown away culturedness from many young women and wives.

While all this is overshadowing reality social media is worsening the situation by fighting the lifestyles of such people like Zodwa Wabantu.

It is good that laws to try and contain indecency are still in existence, it is still good that some cultures abhor perversion that comes with indecent exposure, like the community of Maun, but these need someone to stand up and effect them.

These also needs that women advocacy return to basics, basic of societal morals and values.

Values that will return decency on our women.
