Dexter Nduna, ZANU PF’s head of mobilization, has been arrested and charged with fraud for allegedly collecting vehicle parking fees illegally in Chegutu. Nduna appeared in Chegutu Magistrates Court on Saturday and was remanded in custody until Tuesday, when the court will decide on his bail application.
According to Prosecutor Tafadzwa Vhore, Nduna falsely claimed that his company, Team Chapter, was authorized to collect parking fees in the area. “The accused person made a representation to cause…to act upon the misrepresentation to his prejudice by telling him false demands on behalf of Chegutu municipality claiming that he wanted cash for parking,” Vhore said.
This is not Nduna’s first controversy. His company, Team Chapter, has been trying to take over parking management from local authorities nationwide. Recently, Nduna misled unemployed youths, charging them various fees for supposed training and recruitment as parking marshals.
Nduna has also been in the spotlight for appearing among law graduates at a University of Zimbabwe graduation ceremony, despite not yet completing his law degree. He publicly apologized for his actions after his party and the police warned him.
