Impact Hub Harare, in partnership with Plan International in Zimbabwe and in collaboration with the Ministry of Youth, proudly hosted a graduation ceremony celebrating the achievements of 27 students from the Digital Skills 4 Youth Project.
This transformative initiative is designed to empower 1,680 young individuals across Zimbabwe with vital digital and entrepreneurial skills, with a special focus on uplifting young women in the community.
The comprehensive four-month training program covers a diverse range of courses, including Cyber Security, Digital Marketing, Web Designing, and more. Mr. Nyamaropa Jodge, the event coordinator and representative of Impact Hub, emphasized the mission of the project, stating,
“Our goal is to enhance their participation in the digital economy and foster sustainable income generation.”
This mission aligns with the growing need for tech-savvy professionals in an increasingly digital world.
Paul Nyoni the Provincial Permanent Secretary, who represented the Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Judith Ncube, inspired the graduates to harness their creativity and become content creators. He remarked,
“I urge you to create something that catches people’s eyes.” In a follow-up interview, he expressed confidence in the students’ future, saying,
“And I am sure none of you will sit on your certificates because you have learned ways of sustaining yourselves. This program will surely help them.”
Facilitator Brian Phiri shared his satisfaction with the students’ progress, stating,
“I’m happy they grasped everything I taught, despite some challenging modules. We equipped them with essential tips for sustainability, such as freelancing and contracting.”
His dedication to their success underscores the supportive environment fostered by the program.
Thandolwethu O. Tawa, who received the award for best student, expressed her excitement:
“I’m thrilled to receive this award. I hope to establish connections and secure opportunities through this program.”
Her achievement highlights the potential of the program to create pathways for success in the digital landscape.
The Digital Skills 4 Youth Project offers free four-month courses to young people aged 18 to 24 years, with an ordinary certificate required for enrollment. The program ensures that students have access to essential facilities, including computers and unlimited WiFi, which are crucial for their learning experience.
Administrator Travaltor Munengi played a vital role in making certain that all necessary resources were readily available for the students, contributing to an enriching educational environment.
This graduation ceremony not only marks the end of an educational journey for these students but also opens doors to new opportunities as they step confidently into the digital economy.
