Zimbabwean musician Braveman Chizvino, formerly known as Baba Harare, has unveiled his new stage name, King David, marking his transition from Jiti to Gospel music.
“Let us dance like David danced until his mother complained,” King David shared on Facebook, referencing his spiritual rebirth.
In an interview, King David explained,
“The name change reflects the significant changes in my life. I’ve been born again, and this new name aligns with my brand. The path I’m on now requires change, starting with my name.”
King David’s transformation has sparked debate online. Some support his new path, while others question his motivations.
Savheya veFashion, a social media user, alleged that King David’s wife is driving these changes: “He was instructed to de-Rasta, repent, change genres, and change names… Next, he’ll celebrate Christmas at his wife’s family home.”
VeFashion cautioned, “This level of control is bad. He was at his prime, and with these changes, his career will suffer.”
King David remains focused on his spiritual journey and music.
“Ngoma,” his latest collaboration with Ashy Anointed (Hannok), expresses gratitude and praise to the Lord.
