India’s Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) arrested two Zimbabweans who are said to have smuggled heroin into the country.
“In one of the largest seizures of Narcotics at airport, Air Intelligence Unit of Mumbai airport intercepted two Zimbabwean nationals who were attempting to smuggle 35kg Heroin, with Market Value of Rs 240 Croces in especially made cavities of Trolley Bags,” the statement said.
The 35 kgs heroin was said to be valued at US $31 655 376.
The names and gender of the suspects was not revealed. However, some media houses in India state that one is a 46 year old woman accompanied by a 27 year old male.
The video evidence shows a silver laptop bag with double sims. An officer of the AIU is seen cutting through the sims and removing a concealed black flat plastic which contains the narcotics.
Seemingly this is where the drugs were concealed.
The two suspects might find themselves behind bars for 10 to 20 years when they are sentenced. They will also have to pay a hefty fine of up to US$2 600. This is stipulated in India’s Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (NDPS) of 1985.
