Tragedy struck in Norton on September 23, 2024, when a one-year-three-month-old toddler was killed in a heartbreaking yard accident.
The Zimbabwe Republic Police confirmed that the child was run over by a reversing Honda Fit vehicle at a house in Maridale around 3:10 PM.
“The ZRP confirms a fatal road traffic accident in which a toddler (1 year three months) died after being run over by a Honda Fit vehicle which was reversing at the yard at a house at Maridale, Norton on 23/09/24 at around 1510 hours,” reads a police statement.
The toddler sustained severe head injuries and was pronounced dead upon arrival at a local hospital in Norton.
In another devastating incident, an unidentified man died after being struck by a vehicle along the Harare-Mutare Road near Mutare ZINWA water tanks on Sunday morning. The hit-and-run occurred around 5 AM, near the 260-kilometer peg, and the motorist fled the scene.
The police are now appealing for information to help identify the victim and the motorist involved. The victim’s body was taken to Victoria Chitepo Provincial Hospital for a post-mortem.
These tragic incidents highlight the importance of road safety awareness and responsible driving practices.
