Political Reporter

Vice President Constantino Chiwenga has reaffirmed Zimbabwe’s commitment to eradicating corruption, a menace that has plagued the country for decades, hindering economic growth and perpetuating poverty ¹. In a bid to tackle this scourge, the government has introduced robust legislative measures and collaborative initiatives to promote transparency and accountability.

Some of the key measures implemented include:

  • Adopting the United Nations Convention Against Corruption (UNCAC) into domestic law, reinforcing existing laws such as the Money Laundering and Proceeds of Crime Act and the Public Procurement and Disposal of Public Assets Act.
  • Collaboration with the private sector to create a corruption-free ecosystem through vigorous enforcement of anti-corruption laws.
  • Enhancing public awareness and providing robust protection for whistleblowers.

Chiwenga emphasized that combating corruption requires a collective effort, urging the private sector to demonstrate its commitment to ethical business practices. He encouraged delegates to uphold the principles of good governance and actively participate in anti-corruption initiatives.

By working together, Zimbabwe can create a brighter future, free from the shackles of corruption. As Chiwenga aptly put it,

“Together, we can contribute to a brighter future for our nation”.
