A 28-year-old Zimbabwe Republic Police officer, Mitch Tafirenyika, has been charged with murder after shooting an armed robbery suspect multiple times during an operation at Radway Farm in the Midlands.
According to the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ), Tafirenyika was part of a team tasked with apprehending suspects Tichaona Muzhanduki and Doubt Munsaka.
“The accused person… immediately discharged his firearm and shot the deceased several times on the chest and arms. The deceased died on the spot,” the NPAZ stated.
Tafirenyika and his colleague were armed with service rifles and had surrounded the house after splitting into four groups. The deceased opened the door after police knocked and shouted “Police.” Tafirenyika’s actions led to the tragic outcome.
