A classroom ceiling collapse at Magwegwe High School in Bulawayo left several ‘A’ Level students injured during a lesson last Friday.
“The students sustained bruises after the ceiling collapsed on them… Some had to be pulled out of the rubble by other learners,” a parent of one of the injured students shared.
Twelve students were rushed to Mpilo Central Hospital, treated, and discharged. However, the parent expressed concern that the school hasn’t provided funds for medication.
“I had to buy pain medication for my son when he was discharged… Nothing was said about buying medication for our children” at the School Development Committee meeting.
Taungana Ndoro, Director of Communications and Advocacy at the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education, confirmed the incident.
The Provincial Education Director could not provide a comment citing a busy schedule with meetings.
