A serving member of the Zimbabwe National Army (ZNA) and two other accomplices lost their lives as they exchanged fire power with a former homicide police officer.
A statement issued by the Zimbabwe Republic Police, ZRP, five robbers are reported to have forced entry into a home in Chacombe Harare.
It is alleged that Tariro Gora (21), a soldier with ZNA was on guard on the fateful day. He is said to have armed himself with an AK-47 meant for his duty for the robbery.
He teamed up with four of his friends and headed for Chadcombe.
Fadzanai Musarurwa (36) saw three men walking near her home that evening as she closed her gate after parking her car after 8pm.
She then joined her son and brother inside the house when she heard her dogs barking ferociously. She quickly instructed her brother Masimba Musarurwa to lock the main door as someone already on the outside trying to force it open.
Her son Courage Nemaisa immediately phoned his father Joseph Nemaisa alerting him about the incidence.
Joseph Nemaisa arrived at his home 15 minutes later.
The family had taken cover in their bedrooms whilst Fadzanai hid in the toilet.
The robbers forced open the main door with a crow bar and terrorised the people in the house. They demanded to see Fadzanai who eventually came out of her hiding spot. She was physically assaulted on the face and declare all the money she had in her bedroom.
The robbers were given Samsung M20, an Acer laptop, a shot gun and US $850.00.
The total value of the property is US$ 1600.00.
When Joseph Nemaisa arrived he began shooting at the robbers who also shot back. Three robbers were shot dead on the spot.
Crime Nights, Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and ZRP attended the scene.
After the shootout The former CID detective, Joseph Namaisa told the police that 5 men stormed his house armed with three pistols and an AK riffle.
“I exchanged gunfire with the robber, shot three of them dead and two escaped through a spare bedroom window. I survived 12 gunshots and I’m glad my wife and children are safe”, said Namaisa.
Their bodies were ferried to Sally Mugabe Hospital Mortuary.
Police confirmed that a 21 year old Zimbabwe National Army(ZNA) member, Tariro Gora, was involved in the robbery and he was amongst the shot robbers.
There has been a tremendous rise in the number of robberies involving guns nationwide of late.
Another robbery case was reported from Cowdray Park suburb in Bulawayo and the complainant told the police that, alleged armed robbers escaped with cellphones, television and some particulars.
The police are still investigating the case and have promised to make sure the perpetrators will be arrested and face severe consequences.
