Families living in Jacob’s Farm, Ekurhuleni, South Africa, are facing dire living conditions, with overcrowding severely impacting their well-being and personal relationships.

“We’re raising our children in conditions we wish we could avoid… Everything happens here. It’s stressful and uncomfortable,” said a frustrated mother.

Four families are forced to share a single house, limiting intimacy and privacy.

“Couples can’t even have private moments… When some are drunk, they make noise, and it’s uncomfortable,” said Ntombekhaya Bekwa, a former farmworker.

Bekwa criticized politicians for neglecting their struggles, saying,

“They come for photos, seeking donations or benefits… It’s disheartening. Our children aren’t working, and we need jobs to improve our circumstances.”

The community is calling for government intervention to renovate and expand their living spaces.

“We have space in the yards… We hope the municipality can create separate living areas for families,” Bekwa pleaded.

Former farmworkers echoed Bekwa’s sentiments, highlighting the need for privacy and personal space.

“Living in cramped quarters is stressful and uncomfortable… We need decent conditions to raise our children,” said one resident.

The community urges local authorities to address their concerns and provide a better environment for their families.
