Tragedy struck in Mberengwa when Thokozile Gumbo, a 47-year-old woman, was fatally attacked by a crocodile while fetching water at Mundi Dam.
According to Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko, Midlands Provincial police spokesperson,
“Police are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.”
Gumbo’s husband, Adrine Moyo, had gone to collect firewood and returned to find his wife missing. He searched for her at the dam, where local villagers expressed concerns that she may have been attacked by a crocodile. Together, they found Gumbo’s body with severe injuries, including a fractured leg and multiple bite wounds.
“The now deceased had sustained severe injuries, including a fractured right leg and multiple bite wounds on her thigh,” Mahoko confirmed.
The incident has left the community in shock, highlighting the dangers of wild animal attacks in the area.
