Tanzania – Paul Makonda, Dar es Salaam’s regional Commissioner, has proposed a groundbreaking solution to shield single women from heartbreak caused by deceitful married men.

He plans to create a state-run website listing all married men to prevent them from deceiving single women.

“The situation has become unacceptable. Women are being misled and hurt, and it’s time to do something about it,” Makonda said.

The website will allow women to verify a man’s marital status before committing to a relationship. By registering all marriages in a regional database, women can confirm if a man is already married, saving them from false promises and heartache.

Makonda warned that men who exploit women by pretending to be single will face consequences once the system is in place.

“If you’ve lied to a woman about marrying her and then dumped her, be ready—change is coming.”

This innovative initiative aims to protect single women from emotional pain and empower them to make informed decisions about their relationships.

In Zimbabwe, previously, when a couple married, the law provided for the providence of Identify Document number and their names to be included in the marriage registry.

It is fairly recently that passport sized photos have been included in the register. But it is not clear where these photos are displayed. However, when couple chooses to marry at the Magistrate Courts, their names are displayed on a notice board for sometime. And when married in church, the relavent Pastor is compelled to announce the intended union three times in six weeks before the ceremony.

The Tanzanian Commissioner Paul Makonda, has not explained how the website is going to match names to faces.

One guy from a Men Only WhatsApp group had this to say,

“How many Innocent Ncubes do you know? And how many Vusumuzi Sibanda do you know?” As long a the woman does not ask for my ID, I will deny that I am married.
