Zimbabwean superstar Roki has featured in the remix of “Mang’Dakiwe” a 2020 South African hit by DJ Obza and Leon-Lee.
Rochford Josphat better known as Roki or Rocqui is Madagascan born Zimbabwean Artist who rose to prominence in the 2000s during the wave of Urban Grooves era after featuring in hit songs like “Seiko” by Leonard Mapfumo that topped the charts in the early 2000s.
Along the early years of his career, he released a string of hits such as “Ayawo” and continued featuring in songs by EXQ, Take5, Mafriq and Maroja amongst others.
In 2007 he went on to release his first album that features over 20 songs.
The multi- award winning musician with a golden voice, won the best music video and song of the year for his song “Chidzoka” and in 2012 he featured on Big Brother Africa 7.
The remix “Mang’Dakiwe” falls under the current South African genre “Amapiano”, that has taken the music scene by storm and spreading throughout Africa.
The original hit song has over 7 million views on YouTube while the remix has slightly over 47 000 views.
In the song, Roki provides vocals, with his own twist of lyrics and sound.
Roki’s “Afro-fusion Rumba” sound is prevalent in the song and original vocals from the song provided by Leon Lee are still featured as well.
The songs talks about how when one is drunk, they can do anything irregardless of the outcome.
The song has attracted over thirty thousand views in just1 3 days.
In the past years, Roki had disappeared from the musical scene, due to losing his mother and trying for greener pastures in South Africa which did not go well, and forced him to come back home and try again.
Roki is currently signed under Passion Java Records and has been flourish in it since, with new hits like Uchandifunga with 3million views in 4 months and Patati Patata featuring Congolese Singer Koffi Olomide and Tanzania’s Ray Vanny which has over 6million views in 3months amongst others.
He recently launched his album late this month in South Africa at Sandton.
