Tragedy struck in Mashonaland West province when a 24-year-old man, Josphat Jere, was stoned to death after confronting two individuals who were urinating on a shop’s walls.
The incident occurred on August 20, 2024, at Masaisai Business Centre.
According to the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP),
“The suspects, Biggie Fanamaya (19) and Edson Mambo (25), hit the victim with a stone on the head after an argument during a beer drinking spree. The victim had confronted the suspects for urinating on the walls of a shop.”
Fanamaya and Mambo were arrested for Jere’s murder.
In a separate incident, police in Norton arrested Soul Shezhu (27) for the murder of Matanhire Nyikadzino (39), who was stabbed with a homemade knife and robbed of an unknown amount of cash and a cellphone.
“The body of the victim was found beside a footpath the following day,” said police. The arrest led to the recovery of the knife and stolen cellphone.
These incidents highlight the need for community members to resolve conflicts peacefully and avoid resorting to violence. As one resident noted, “It’s tragic that a simple argument over urinating on a shop’s walls led to a loss of life. We need to find better ways to resolve our differences.”
