Ngezi Platinum’s CAF Champions League journey came to an end after a nail-biting penalty shootout against AS Maniema Union at Stade des Martyrs in Kinshasa, DRC, on Sunday.
The Zimbabwean champions played two goalless draws, leading to the decisive penalty shootout, which they lost 4-3.
“We are disappointed, but we gave it our all,” said Ngezi Platinum coach.
“The team showed great spirit, and we can hold our heads high.”
In domestic league action, Highlanders failed to capitalize on a 10-man Chicken Inn, playing out a goalless draw at Barbourfields stadium. Mpumelelo Bhebhe’s red card for a second bookable offense was a turning point in the match.
In other Week 24 matches, teenage sensation Kingsley Mureremba scored a stunning volley to give Caps United a 1-0 win over Manica Diamonds at Rufaro. FC Platinum lost 1-0 to Bikita Minerals, while Khama Billiat scored in Yadah’s 2-0 victory over Chegutu Pirates.
Simba Bhora tops the league table with 47 points, followed by FC Platinum on 45. Highlanders moved to third with 38 points, tied with Ngezi Platinum, who have a game in hand. Manica Diamonds sit fourth with 36 points.
