A rejection tale of love proposal turned into a sickening nightmare for a 20-year-old woman from PBS village 5 in Fort Rixon when she encountered a rapist on the Gadadi road from Ntabende to Wessels in Fort Rixon.
The incident which commenced as an innocent enquiry for directions turned sinister when the rapist, a gold panner proposed love to the girl, who however, promptly rejected the proposal.
This marked the beginning of an horror as the gold panner was not ready to take no for an answer.
The twisted tale of Nkosikhona Ncube, a gold panner from Ntabende in Esigodini, came to a chilling close when he was sentenced to 20 years in prison after pleading guilty to the horrific charges against him.
The 20-year-old was brought before Bulawayo regional magistrate Elisha Singano, where his fate was already sealed by the terrible acts he had committed.
At the close of the state case, Singano sentenced Ncube to 20 years in prison while three years were suspended on condition of good behaviour.
The Prosecutor, Patience Sibanda, revealed to the court that Sijabulisiwe Dube, a young woman from PBS village 5 in Fort Rixon, was travelling along the Gadadi road from Ntabende to Wessels in Fort Rixon when she disembarked from her mode of transport at the PBS village 5 turnoff.
Little did she know that the accused person, Ncube was already lurking in the shadows, watching her every move.
As Dube stepped off the transport, Ncube feigned innocence, pretending to be in need of directions, instead his intentions were anything but innocent.
In a sickeningly familiar ruse, Ncube seized the opportunity to proposition Dube, asking for something far more sinister than a simple set of directions.
Dube refused and the firm rejection sent Ncube into a fit of rage, as he lunged at the unsuspecting woman, grabbing her arm and dragging her into the nearby bushes.
As she struggled against his grasp, a ferocious struggle ensued, with Dube doing everything she could to fight off the crazed Ncube.
Ncube’s strength and fury proved too much for Dube, who was quickly overpowered and dragged deeper into the bushes.
As she fought back, Ncube violently ordered Dube to remove her pants, threatening that he would stab and leave her for dead in the bush, his voice dripped with the unmistakable threat of violence.
The nightmarish scene unfolded as Ncube forced Dube to strip off her black skin-tight pants and pink underwear, exposing her to his depraved desires.
After Dube had removed her umderwear, Ncube proceeded to rape her continuously at different times whilst keeping her captive.
The state led case states that Ncube raped Dube four times at different intervals until he was done to his sexual satisfaction. Dube was reduced to a mere pulp after Ncube’s twisted sexual desires.
She endured unspeakable agony as he satisfied his grotesque urges.
The depravity of Ncube’s crimes knew no bounds as he proceeded to rob his victim of her possessions in a further act of dominance and degradation.
As if the physical and emotional trauma of the rape was not enough, he also stole her black Itel 14 cellphone and brown woolen hat inscribed “K”, a cruel reminder of his brutality.
Dazed and devastated, Dube was left alone in the bushes with a broken shadow of her former self.
Not content with his horrific deeds, Ncube attempted to cover his tracks by fleeing into the underbrush, but the phone and the incriminating hat served as his damning undoing.
The matter was reported to the police in Esigodini where the phone was traced and found at Ncube’s possession, who was arrested red-handed wearing the brown woolen hat inscribed
“K”.
Ncube was sentenced to 20 years in prison.
