The January transfer window closed on 31 March as Bulawayo giants Highlanders Football Club were still hunting for a second striker but to avail.
The club managed to bring in Stanley Ngala from the defending champions Zvishavane side FC Platinum during the transfer window.
Highlanders FC coach Mandla Lulu Mpofu was not satisfied with Ngala as he is still looking for a second striker. Unfortunately the transferlaws have hindered him from looking yonder and he shifted focus to the Club’s development side.
Highlander Football Club has a development side, Bosso 90, a team which participates in the lower division, Southern Region division 1.
From these, Bosso has promoted some players into the senior team.
In a press conference held at the Highlanders FC offices on yesterday, the team’s head coach Mandla Mpofu confirmed the developments.
“We brought in Darlington Mukuli, Romeo Zimba from Bosso 90 Football Club. These players are not here to add numbers but they are here to compete to be part of the first team.” said Mpofu.
Bulawayo side Highlanders FC will be facing the Sugar Sugar boys Triangle United FC in Triangle on Sunday.
Mpofu, during the press conference, said that the boys are ready to go and battle for three points.
“Our focus now is to go to Triangle and collect three points, we really need to move up the ladder” added Mpofu.
Responding to questions during the press conference Mandla Mpofu admitted that currently he is under pressure of maintaining the win form. Highlanders FC have had a bad start this season and for the past four matches the team is fighting for points.
In form Nqobizitha Masuku who has scored 5 goals for the Amahlolanyama side was also present at the conference.
He spoke on scoring more goals.
“I can’t really say that I have a target but I will score more goals. This is good for me and also for the team.” said Masuku
The team will travel to Triangle on Saturday morning. Currently Highlanders FC are seated on the 10th position with 12 points, 7 points behind Triangle who are in third place.
Gamecocks Chicken Inn FC are the log leaders with 22 points followed by the Harare giants Dynamos FC with 19 points.
Whawha FC are at the bottom of the log with 5 points where the Miracle Boys Yadah Football Club are yet to claim a win.
It was a good move for Bosso to give their juniors a chance before signing from outside the team. If they continue to recruit from within, surely they will restructure and start winning.
Now that all eyes are on the new boys, how will they fare?
