Exciting Boxing Bouts in the City of Kings and Queens.

While most people celebrated Africa Day relaxed at home, exchange of heavy jabs, hooks and uppercuts kept Boxing enthusiasts on the edge of their seats at a Boxing tournament held at a local Hotel.

The tournament delivered an electrifying display of skill, determination, and sportsmanship. Boxing enthusiasts were treated to a series of thrilling bouts, with standout performances from both seasoned fighters and rising stars.

The event featured many boxers from the Zimbabwe National Army, Zimbabwe Prisons, Legends Boxing, Otto Boxing Club, the Air Force of Zimbabwe, local boxing clubs like Tshaka Youth Centre, Nketa, Black Rhinos, HQ 1 Brigade, 5 Brigade, Bulawayo Metropolitan, Prisons and Correctional Services, Air Force of Zimbabwe, Harare, Midlands, Victoria Falls Boxing Academy as well as clubs owned by former athletes like Manyuchi Boxing Academy, Masvingo, Gwanda and Hwange.

The tournament also highlighted several promising young fighters. Among them, notable performances in the welterweight and bantam weight.

A young female boxer Olinda Sunday from Legends Boxing Club, won her match with an unknown MAs decision, showing the bright future for the girl child in the boxing ring.

Speaking on the sidelines Coach Richard of Legends Boxing Club praised his club’s success, noting the high level of competition and the passionate crowd.

“The boxing club had a decent performance in this tournament, with 3 boxers one of them securing a win, one of them lost with a split decision.

“The team engaged in intensive training sessions, focusing on conditioning, technique, and strategy. They also worked with sports psychologists to improve mental toughness and visualization techniques.”

Asked on the future plans for improving perfomance, Coach Rich said

“The club plans to secure additional funding to upgrade training facilities, hire more coaches, and increase training intensity and frequency. We also aim to recruit more talented young boxers from the local community.”

The Africa day tournament not only provided a platform for established boxers to demonstrate their prowess but also offered a glimpse into the future of boxing. As the event concluded, fans and fighters alike celebrated a night of unforgettable moments and look forward to the next gathering of boxing’s elite.
