A Tennis Star Emerges from Bulawayo

THE City of Kings and Queens, as ever, is back yet again with another sporting sensation.

The young 14 year old is to poised to pen his name amongst Bulawayo’s great legends such as former Warriors maestro Peter ‘Nsukuzonke’ Ndlovu, Felistus Kangwa, the former Gems’ skipper, the shamed Heath Streak and many others.

Brian Dube, a talented young tennis player is bruising the tennis courts at Bulawayo Athletic Club (BAC) with his serves, volleys and straights.

Brian has taken the courts with full force.

Young Brian who trains under coach Friedlander Kadzombe at the BAC has emerged as promising tennis player in Bulawayo if not the whole country.

“My best Zim tennis player is Benjamin Lock, he is just amazing to watch. He is just so great” Said Brian praising his local idol.

Brian is also inspired by Swiss international, Rodger Federer.

At just 14, the sport has taken the Bulawayo’s youngster to such countries as Italy and Morocco. His next mission this new year, is representing Zimbabwe in Egypt for African Junior Championships.

Brian shared his emotions of being taken care by a single parent, his mother, who is playing a crucial role in his life as well as understanding his passion in tennis.

“I am raised by my mom, she taught me many things that I don’t think I will never forget in my life time. She taught me how to love God especially to never give up even if things seem hard.

And I have a lot of good friends. They are always willing to push me to be the best and I love it. They are just amazing people. I’m so happy I’m surrounded by such good people.” The youngster explained

Brian’s coach fully understands the passion and the talent emanating from the young star. Coach Kadzombe expresses that the young player can unlock and reach any level of the game because of his skill.

Zim GBC Sport News team caught up with him,

“God willing I see him at the highest competitive level in the world, this depends on him. If Brian really wants to go far with tennis he can make it, it’s really up to him. I see him at high level. If he puts in the time, if he puts in the hours and then definitely there is nothing to stop him, Said Kadzombe
