The African continent has abhorred in its strongest sense the issue of lesbians, gays, bisexuals, and transgender also known as (LGBT).
In many parts of the motherland such practices are a taboo, and during Zulu King’s reign Tshaka such people would be killed.
It is however a fact that many African Nations have condemned the contentious practices of LGBT with the exception of South Africa and Cape Verde. Serve for the two countries in the African continent outlawed the homosexual practice.
To uphold human nature the Supreme Court of Namibia, on Wednesday, passed a law that bans it’s citizens from practicing same-sex marriages. Speaking to the parliament, Elder Filipe, a member of the ruling South West African Peoples’ Organization, SWAPO, party said,
“The marital Union is between a man and a woman and must be respected.”
Despite the 2017 case of Daniel Digashu (a South African citizen) and Anita Seiler-Lilles a Dutch who approached the High Court of Namibia after the Ministry of Home Affairs and Immigration denied their work permit and Immigration status based on their same-sex marital status, On 20 January 2022, the High Court of Namibia granted immigration status to the minor.
But soon after the case, some of the Namibians started seeing this as a go ahead to allow the homosexual practice. Therefore the 1927 sodomy law that prohibited the sex between homosexual began to be ignored.
As such the upholding of the law will ensure that anyone who practices this abhorred act or push its agenda face a six years imprisonment and a fine of up to 100,000 Namibian dollars which is equivalent to $5,500 United States Dollars.
However, some Namibians are against the passed law claiming its a violation of human rights.
“It feels like a direct attack on the LGBTQ community,” LGBTQ rights activist Zindri Swartz told AFP. “It is a gross violation of our dignity and humanity”.
In Namibia several ministers have voted for this homosexual practice to never exist again.
