BEING rich and famous has become the sought after lifestyle, the life termed a “curse” by those already living it.
Both young men and women in the 21st century, are doing whatever they can to attain popularity, envying the beautiful life, not knowing the intensity that comes with being a celebrity.
The moment one become famous, it simply mean no more privacy and many celebrities have failed to comprehend the expensive lifestyle.
One of the greatest footballers of all time, Cristiano Ronaldo in an interviewed with Piers Morgan on how it feels to be famous just few months before the 2022 World Cup stated that even a simple walk in the park is no longer a luxury he can afford.
“Do you know how many times I go to the park with my kids?. Do you know?, Tell me. Zero. Not once. If I go it will come like 20 people, the kids will be like nervous, I will be nervous. My girlfriend will be nervous and when you’re at public places it’s hard you know. You have to maintain a little bit posture. If you put the finger in nose they gonna take pictures. You cannot be yourself which is boring.”
Below is the list of Zimbabwe’s three footballers who once had their unpleasant share of fame.
1 Kudakwashe Mahachi
Kudakwashe Mahachi is amongst the finest footballers that Zimbabwe has ever produced. He represented clubs like Mamelodi Sundowns FC and Orlando Pirates FC of South Africa.
However in the year 2022, the Warriors winger was accused of scalding his four-year child with boiling water. He was also accused of striking his own child with a charger cable to a point of injuries. The Bulawayo Magistrate Court however dismissed the case claiming the witnesses presented inconsistent information.
The winger is currently club-less after Super Sport United terminated his contract during trials.
2 Peter Ndlovu
Back in 2012, the legend was accused of the death of his brother and Zimbabwe’s football hero, Adam Ndlovu. The 34 times scorer for the Warriors died in a car crash accident when traveling together with the former Coventry City player to a friendly clash that was between Highlanders and a local club in Victoria Falls.
Soon after the burial of the hero, the case was taken to the courts after the police noticed that, over speeding had been the cause of the accident. The court however, dismissed the case, and Ndlovu was acquitted of all charges.
3 Shingayi Kaondera
The former Warriors midfielder, Shingayi Kaondera was a monster on the pitch. He started his Football career in 1997, and represented the Warriors U-18 and netted 4 goals. He also played in Turkey and Poland.
After having invested an estimated amount of US$80 000 through his then wife, Marry Mubaiwa, to begin a business which they had named Lachelle Company with the aim of opening boutiques and travel agency services. However, Kaondera did not benefit anything as Marry forced a divorce so that she could get married to the First Vice-President of Zimbabwe, Constantino Chiwenga, who later left her in serious ill health and had to be amputated.
The legend was left without someone to call a wife, even though they were blessed with a child.
Marry Mubaiwa is currently in a bad state of illness after her relationship with the Vice-President collapsed.
