The assault case for the former model and former Vice President’s wife Marry Mubaiwa continued in court on Tuesday.
Marry Mubaiwa is facing allegations of assaulting her former maid, Delight Munyoro.
During the cross examinations, Munyoro was exposed to have lied under oath in court.
Munyoro had told Magistrate Learnmore Mapiye that Mubaiwa had assaulted her on her cheek using the back of her hand, breaking her tooth.
Mubaiwa’s lawyer, Beatrice Mtetwa examined the complaint on Tuesday, where Munyoro claimed to have forgotten the version of events, including the statement she had made to the police.
Munyoro struggled to explain when she visited Parirenyatwa Hospital and a private doctor to seek treatment after the assault.
She also did not remember the name of the doctor she consulted or the location of the surgery where she was treated.
Munyoro also added new details to Mtetwa which she did not mention in her police statement. She said she had been treated for headache by the same doctor she does not recall the name.
Upon explaining the assault, Munyoro claimed Mubaiwa hit her with the back of her hand. Ironically, Mubaiwa’s hand was already swollen before the assault hence it could not be possible that she hit her with the same hand.
Marry Mubaiwa together with her former husband, Constantino Chiwenga, emerged in public with unexplained swollen hands and skin pigmentation. Marry’s hands were visibly swollen and it was hard to hide.
Corridor news claimed that the couple (Marry and Chiwenga) had been bewitched by Marry’s former husband Shingi Kawondera.
It later emerged they were suffering from Nhuta disease which saw the couple’s skin changing. Some sections of the media reported that it was from the bomb blast during the 2018 Zanu-PF rally in Bulawayo at White City Stadium.
Munyoro then changed her statement and claimed it was Mubaiwa’s ring, which she had worn on the day of assault, that injured her resulting in her losing her tooth.
These assault charges and all other charges of fraud, attempted murder on her former husband Constantino Chiwenga, money laundering, Marry has denied.
In closing, Beatrice Mtetwa, Marry’s lawyer argued that Munyoro was working under the influence of the Vice President Chiwenga in order to build a case against Mubaiwa.
The court case has been postponed to the 28th of March for continuation of trial.
