TOP darts players from across the country, will converge in Bulawayo for the Easter Darts Tournament which will run from 7-10 April, at a venue yet to be announced.
The Vice chairperson for the Bulawayo Metropolitan Province Darts Association (BMPDA) Zivanai Masviviriri told Zim GBC News all is set and the country’s second largest city is ready to hold the inaugural national competitions which will feature both female and male participants.
“We are yet to finalize on the exact venue but Bulawayo province is very ready and the expectations are very high. We are on the right track after experiencing challenges post Covid-19 which disturbed the smooth flow a bit but we are back on track now.” Said Zivanai Masviviriri.
Masviviriri said, Bulawayo will have 18 male participants representing the province. However, the 12 best players who are expected to be part of the senior men’s team are yet to be selected. The 18 selected players were part of the provincial trials held last week which he described as a success as both athletes and spectators came in their numbers.
“We had players from different BMPDA darts clubs and some from incoming new clubs. The tourney was tightly contested that a lot of players performed exceptionally well.” He said.
The trials were being held at Bellevue Recreational Club.
According to Zivanai Masviviriri, one local player by the name of Ndabezinhle Ngwenya came out the talk of the competition when he closed 170 on a bull’s eye after hitting 180 in the same leg.
He also declared that the city of Kings and Queens will excel at the upcoming tourney.
“We are certain that we will scoop most awards.” Added the BMPDA vice chairperson.
Harare Metropolitan Province are currently the reigning champions.
