THE Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) Bulawayo Women’s soccer team is already gearing up for the 2023-24 season and eyes top finish in the ZIFA Southern Division One after a successful 2022-23 campaign.
With gold in their sight, last season’s runners-up are eagerly set to arrest the entire Women’s Southern Division 1 Soccer League. The ZRP Bulawayo women’s team has already began their pre-season training last week in preparation for the title challenge.
“This year we want to elevate from our previous position (second) to the top. We are working very hard to lift the prestigious trophy this year.” Said ZRP Bulawayo Women’s Soccer team coach Nathan Marime.
The early preparations do help the coach to be equipped with tactical game plan.
As the 2023-24 season campaign draws closer, optimism is growing louder inside Marime’s camp. The coach is confident enough to call this year ‘their year’.
Marime said football in the Southern Region is very competitive.
However, with time on their side and all sights glued to the top prize, Marime’s team is busy working on the technical side to bolster the current squad with fresh young players. The search is an ongoing one.
The Club’s gaffer also assured fans that this season they will overcome the hurdle of limited training time which hindered their chances of claiming the championship last season. Marime said this time around they got adequate time, a move which he claimed will play an important role in booking the ticket to the Women’s Super League.
He further hinted on the club’s aims of roping in young talent and combine it with experienced players.
“We came short due to limited training time. This time we have enough time, so we will challenge the league title with all our might. Furthermore, we also intend to find young talented players and merge them with our seniors to have a more balanced team.” He said.
ZRP may be termed perennial bridesmaids having finished second more than four times since their establishment since 2013.
