Both the Government and Opposition are responsible for the mess the country is in, these are the words of a 2018 losing Presidential Candidate who is also a member of the Political Actors Dialogue (POLAD), Devine Mhambi Hove.
According to Hove, Government has abandoned the fundamentals and it seems to be encouraging corruption and lack of accountability in almost all spheres of life in Zimbabwe.
He also said the opposition formations are guilty of the same poor thinking and corrupt practices.
“The current status does not allow enough room for development or progress. There are no political or economic reforms in sight. There is little dialogue between stakeholders. There is no link between the top and the bottom. There is no cooperation within the political field, and even the media is polarised,” said Hove.
He further likened the current state of the affairs in Zimbabwe to that of a jungle.
“It should return to basics, embrace the fundamentals in all spheres and serve the master(citizen). The Government should as well encourage dialogue at all levels,”
Hove was speaking as part of a current affairs series that we are running in a build-up to this year’s harmonised elections.
Hove is one of the several opposition leaders who are part of the POLAD grouping, a platform that was created to bridge the gap between the opposition and the ruling party.
POLAD’s influence and clout were watered down by the absence of what most Zimbabweans may call the real opposition party, Nelson Chamisa’s Citizen Coalition for Change.
Chamisa has for the past five years refused to be part of POLAD. He has also been previously quoted saying POLAD is a group of losing candidates.
