The Zimbabwean economy is in bad shape as mirrored by the current standards of living of most of the country’s citizens, these are the sentiments of Zimbabwe Congress of Trade Unions Western Region Ambrose Sibindi.

Sibindi told Zim GBC News that there is a sharp contrast between the old Bulawayo which was duped the industrial hub of the country and the current which has many people eking out a living through informal means.

“The escalating levels of poverty amongst workers caused by the continuous erosion of their salaries has reduced Zimbabweans into slaves. Prices of basic commodities are rising at an alarming level”, Sibindi added.

He called upon government to quicken the pace of the Gwayi-Shangani project that is expected to create a green belt which may improve the standards of living of most Zimbabweans. He also said that government must walk the talk on issues to do with revitalisation of Bulawayo as the industrial hub of the country.

“Its election season again, you hear them at campaign rallies saying the same things they said before previous polls promising heaven and earth, giving fake timelines on the completion of projects such as the Gwayi-Shangani and reviving Bulawayo’s industries”, Sibindi also said in reference to government aligned activists.
